I caught myself smiling after I got my first salary! I am SO happy to receive the first fruit of my labor. I am more determined and committed to my work now not because of the compensation but the responsibilities entrusted to me.
I was assigned in the Pedia Intensive care unit during the first day of the month. I felt nervous and the feeling of don’t know what to do but again those feeling were just temporary. I was able to cope with it. Frankly speaking there are equipments that are new to me like infusion pumps. I know it is to regulate the intravenous drops but I really don’t know how to use it at first. However I used my observing skills and I am not hesitant to ask my buddy on how to use it. Now I already knew how to set and use it. I always believe that everything can be learned in the proper time and if we are just willing.
In my first time in the PICU I learned few things but I guess I still have so much to learn in the ward before to prepare myself more in the intensive care unit. Documentation in the PICU is more specific and detailed; you need to jot down everything you have done to the patients.
Before I am afraid to do blood transfusion but later on I take it easy with the staff’s supervision and guidance. I did the same thing like charting, carry out doctor’s order, medicating but the difference now is that I am more confident and faster this time. I learned how to use my time wisely.
